Praia da Solidão (Solitude's Beach): my piece of paradise



             In the far south of the Santa Catarina Island (Florianopolis) in Brazil you will find one of the most charming beaches of Southern Atlantic, framed by mountains and the law protected Atlantic Forest. Praia da Solidão congregates, in its 850 meters of extension, the natural necessary ingredients for an unforgettable stay: a thin-sand clean beach, waterfall with a natural pool, beautiful sightseeing walks and a safe and calm environment.

              Despite the media attention focus observed in the last few years, Solidão continues to be a calm meeting place for nature lovers. (read some Portuguese written related articles: A Noticia 03/01/00, A Noticia 13/02/01)
             The clean water sea bathed by an oceanic stream is a perfect place for fishing, diving and surfing.
             Little kids enjoy swimming in the Rio das Pacas (Pacas' River) what offers the visitors a small warm water pound near the sea.

Access
             30 km far from Florianópolis Downtown, you can go to Praia da Solidão taking the SC406 State Road in its path by the airport, and other beaches like Morro das Pedras, Armação (Lagoa do Peri), Pântano do Sul e Balneário de Açores, by good quality roads and a short (300 meters) natural access (all weather open).

Infrastructure
             Right in Solidão, three little restaurants offer snacks and homemade seafood dishes. In the neighborhood (Açores and Pantano do Sul beaches) you can find fine seafood meals. You can find small markets, drugstore catholic church and police office there too, just 500 to 1,500 meters far.
             For those who "can't survive" without a civilization contact, shopping centers, bars, disco clubs and sophisticated restaurants can be found in Downtown Florianópolis and in the beaches of the northern part of the island, reached by car car or bus.

Weather
             Besides the well known warm and welcoming attitude of brazilian people, Florianópolis' weather is subtropical, with temperatures varying between 75 and 95 F in the summer. During the rest of the year the weather is mild, rarely going below 59 F in the winter.

Security and Cleaning
             Security must be a concern in vacation planning.
Despite the (not generally correct) image that Brazil got overseas, it is important to notice that Florianopolis is known as one of the safest capital cities in Brazil.
             Praia da Solidão, for its characteristics, is a safe place with no crime occurrences in the last years. The beach has artificial light, what guarantee good conditions for recreation activities at night as fishing, walking, volleyball and soccer games.
             The local citizens and most of the visitors work hard to maintain the place safe and clean.


             I am really fortunate to have a house just in this small paradise, what I sometimes share with polite and nature friend families. We decided not to transform it in a downtown-like house just because we think that it should offer us only the necessary comfort. Then it continues to be not more than a supporting actress in the Praia da Solidão's Show where NATURE must be the best actress.
